History

  1. On August 1, 1997 the school founding preparatory office was created at the former Liudou High School. Principal Liao Furong was also the preparatory office director.
  2. In March 1998 the Taiwan Provincial Government Department of Education First Division Division Leader Chen Zhixiang became the full-time director of the preparatory office. In May of the same year he commenced planning for the school.
  3. In November 1997 construction of the school was entirely entrusted to the Ministry of Interior Construction and Planning Agency, which undertook design, contracting, construction supervision and acceptance.
  4. On January 25, 1999 surveying and ground marking was completed. The address of the school is Yunlun County Dounan Township Dadong Section Dadong Sub-section 578-14.
  5. In June 1999 the school stared selecting students for admission. Eighteen physically and mentally handicapped students were admitted to the vocational training department’s comprehensive vocational skills course.
  6. On August 1, 1999, the school was granted permission to use Dounan Middle School for the two classes it had admitted, and officially was officially founded as the Provincial Yunnan Special School. The first principal was Mr. Chen Zhixiang.
  7. At the same time, in August, 1999, the first selection of teachers was undertaken and four vocational training department teachers were employed.
  8. On November 1, 2000, the school was restructured as the National Yunlin Special School. Contemporaneously, the central office’s director Lin Huihuang became the second principal and undertook first stage planning for the school construction.
  9. On May 8, 2000, the school’s office and class locations were moved from the Dounan Middle School to Dounan County to Xinlun Li Xinlun Road No. 100. Here after, this was date was marked as celebratory date of the school’s founding.
  10. On October 23, 2002 and December 21, 2003 the second and third stages of school construction were completed respectively.
  11. On 2004 Chen Qingbin, who was previously employed by the Tainan National School for Students with Hearing Impairments, became the school’s third principal. He continued planning for the school’s main works, and the school expanded to 17 classes.
  12. In 2008 Mr. Wang Chongmao, who was originally employed at the Chiayi National School for Students with Hearing Impairments, became the school’s fourth principal. He continued doing his utmost in the operation of the school, and the number of classes expanded to 21.
  13. In 2012 the Ministry of Education selected Lin Yiwen, formerly the director of the Changhua Arts Senior High School, as the school’s fifth principal. He continued the school’s various administrative activities.
  14. At present there are 20 classes, including 2 preschool classes, 6 elementary school classes, 4 middle school classes, and 8 high school classes. In all, there are 20 classes with 219 students. Most of the students are from Yunlin County and are mentally handicapped or severely mentally handicapped. Other students are children and young people with various disabilities.
